The SLO-1800 creates an index mark whenever recording begins using the REC button or from a wired remote. It will not record an index signal when recording is initiated from the PAUSE mode. For more on the operation of the index marking system click here. Marks can also be applied to the tape using an external index marking device. Pictured above are the two phono jacks located on the back for this operation. One is used to input a ground to the circuit for eight seconds making the index mark. The other jack is for sending that signal to another recorder in a chain. The CONTROL selector switch on each recorder must be set to REMOTE. Index marking is a sorting feature for tape locations. The VCR normally places a short inaudible tone in the tapes monaural audio track whenever the REC button is pressed. These silent "marks" can be used for alerts, scene locating and bookkeeping. When being recorded by the VCR the INDEX button on the front will flash. Marks can also be manually inserted or erased using the front panel index buttons. During playback, rewind, fast-forward and in Betascan the mark button will flash at the indexed locations as the tape go by. This notification can be used to search various passages by number. ©Misterßetamax
