While the method for the Betamax video process has remained the same over the years there were some major enhancement and improvements in the picture. In the beginning it was always better than VHS because of the larger drum. Later SuperBeta, Super Hi-Band and Extended Definition Beta pushed the luminance signal up to get a higher quality picture. But the down and up signal conversion system remained basically the same. If knew how the basic system functioned you could tackle the later improvements with ease. All of these are nonconductive to avoid false readings from interaction with the human body. As a general rule it is best to check and align the playback system first before working on the recording side of things.
