As you can see from the picture above, the familiar VHS cassette is bigger than Beta. Click and notice it too has line up holes, pockets for threading components and a lever lock opening. Click again and examine the various internal and external parts up close. It has a lid lock, two friction pads, two reel locks and a lever. It uses the clear leader with a photocell for end of tape detection, holes in each side of the shell let the light shine through to the photocells. Also note the prominent and unsightly break off recording lockout, very visible on the spine of the shell. Click on the photo again to remove the descriptions. That covers all the major contenders.
