UltraSkipscan (Ultra BetaSkipscan)

This Beta has a unique and impressive way of performing BetaSkipscan. I call it UltraSkipscan. First the normal operation of this feature (found in high end units) allows you to drop in during the fast forward or rewind modes and see a portion of what is on the tape. It goes by fast but the electronics is able to construct a viewable video. This is great for finding a particular location on a tape. You can at least view it as it is going by. It is requested by pressing and holding down either of the wind buttons a second time. This can be done from the touch pad or by using the remote. Doing this causes the VCR to momentarily stop the tape, engage the capstan and perform regular Betascan (cue and review mode) in the that direction. Releasing it returns the VCR back to rewind or fast forward. But this Betamax does it very differently. It decreases the winding speed of the tape travel just enough during fast forward or rewind for UltraSkipscan to display a viewable picture. It does not engage the capstan and then play it in Betascan as do all the others. It does not close the pinch roller or use the capstan at all. It just seamlessly drops in on a tape as it is flowing by the video drum. The picture is aided by the video circuitry which constructs a viewable picture. When first experienced this smooth operation is impressive and a marvel to behold. This is the way all BetaSkipscan machines should operate because the result is a more impressive and satisfying experience. UltraSkipscan.
