The tuner is one area that improved greatly over the years. The first Betas used the rotary style that had individual coils located in a tumbler or bin. Iron cores were used to fine tuning the stations. From there we quickly moved to the push button access tuner with the individual dials for setting the stations. Next came the auto-tune electronic module type with push button access and memory. Plus and minus buttons helped simplify finding stations. With each improvement the tuners became less and less adjustable, until finally in the fully electronics versions there were no adjustment at all. If you will click on the picture you will see a common type. The left half of the picture shows it with the cover (called the shield or can) on. The right half of the picture shows it off. All most all tuners are shielded in metal to reduce outside interference. This particular example is the type that has individual push buttons with separate tuning dials for setting the station for each button. It does have a few adjustments and the information that follows is this type. Click for the next picture and examine how this tuner is aligned. As you can see there isn't much to it. Just automatic gain and automatic fine tuning. The small metal cans with hex holed cores inside them that were seen in the previous photo are set at the factory and are not supposed to be tampered with.
