When playing recordings made on other machines using the tracking knob or the plus and minus (+/-) buttons will adjust the machine for the best playback picture. Because there are minor mechanical variances from machine to machine this adjustment allows you to slightly move the control tracks electrical center point. To do this it alters slightly the processing of the magnetic pulse that was recorded on the tape. It uses this to start each video frame. Adjustment matches the VCR to a pre-recorded tape. Every machine has some way to adjust its tracking. Adjustment is usually not necessary for recordings made on this machine. It is set at the center click point.
