This array of six LEDs named TAPE RUN is centered just below the cassette entryway. It indicates at a glance which way the tape is traveling and at what speed. The quicker the LEDs scamper from side to side, the faster the tape is traveling in that direction. This applies to record, play, rewind, fast-forward, and scan. No movement indicates pause, and in stop it goes dark. While it doesn't show the exact playback speed (, or ), you can usually estimate it at a glance.
