The superiority of the Beta picture was always a strong selling point. When Sony created Extended Definition Beta they pushed the luminance carrier signal beyond that of SuperBeta. This required the use of special metal formula tapes and models that were expensive compared to previous models. But the results were nothing short of spectacular. Over 500 lines of, better than broadcast, screen resolution and circuitry that produced a stunningly sharp, clean, clear, solid picture. Nothing came close in pro-sumer video. The other format tried, but ED Beta stands alone as the finest example of home video technology.
