SONY MEDICAL BETAS

These Betas were manufactured for use in the medical and dental professions where extra safety precautions were needed. They were required to meet or exceed UL® Laboratory's medical Standard 544. This required the equipment to operate safely in an environment where flammable materials were going to be present. They also had to interface with other devices in a certain way and be labeled with added information. The target customer base was small so not a large number of these were Betas sold. They were used to record sonograms, surgeries, dental procedures and other associated medical activities. They looked no different from similar consumer models but incorporated special fire retardant components. This also made them cost more. The companion cameras, monitors and cables also had to have comparable design specifications to pass UL® approval for medical applications.
