THE S-VIDEO SOCKET

The S-video socket illustrated on the above left comes standard with this Beta VCR. Usually located on the back it connects to the two circuits used for creating color video. These are the luminance, which is the black and white picture detail, and the chrominance which adds the color. The sockets are provided in addition to the common phono (RCA) composite video connections. S-video reduces signal processing and results in better video quality because it bypasses the circuits used for producing the composite video. The S-video cable has two separate shielded lines and is less susceptible to outside interference than is the standard single line video cable. This VCR has both S-video inputs and outputs. Requires 4-pin DIN S-video cables for connection. The cables have two conductors inside, each shielded and grounded to the case, see diagram.
