The RM-58W came standard with the full featured SL-5800, the last of this chassis design. Now more remote functions were available because Beta was becoming more intelligent. From the remote you could do fast play, fast forward or rewind, Betascan in both forward and reverse at variable speeds, single frame advance and variable slow motion. Yellow LED flashes to indicate the VCR is in pause mode and a red one lights for fast play. To change the channels, turn the VCR on or off or to program the timer you still had to do it manually. As the remotes became more featured the cord grew thicker and the plug more complicated. Fully wired remotes hit a brick wall but this would change when the skinny wire smart remotes came along.
