The spectacular SL-HF750 listed above comes with the original DA4 video heads that still have a large portion of their useable life remaining. It will produce the video and audio results you would expect from this full featured machine. But most of the SL-HF750s today have video heads that are worn out and can't produce a clear picture or plug up all the time. The machine is still fine, just its whole purpose has been taken away. It ceases to have any value. I have developed a strategy that restores the life and viability of this Sony Beta icon.
The Sony SL-HF750 is currently available with a new video head disk that is compatible. It replaces the worn out DA4 video heads (the disk) and gives this Betamax new life. This turns it back into a video and audio effects monster it once was. This is a workaround made necessary because the original factory replacement video disk is no longer available. For this alteration a new compatible disk* from my new parts inventory is installed. To make this conversion work the head wiring is modified and the amplifier circuit is altered. The result is it now produces the same high-quality picture and performance as the original heads. Only the BetaScan mode shows a few more scan lines than the original DA4 heads, they do slightly better. All the other features, functions and goodies are at your disposal in all three playback speeds. This adaptation is a positive way to resurrect this famous Betamax. GUIDELINES:The A/V inputs were used to record the

speeds. For the picture evaluation the industry standard NTSC composite color bars reference signal from a Leader 408NPS pattern generator was supplied to the video input. For the audio 1000 and 400 Hz. tones were supplied to the left and right stereo inputs. The Sony SL-0003-C was used for setting back and forward tension, the master alignment cassette KR5-1V was used for the video and audio and a new Sony Ultra High-Grade Pro L-500 was used for making test recordings. The RF inputs and outputs were not tested since they are no longer used. The SL-HF750 with the new substitution video heads* performed exactly as demanded by the Sony factory service manual. All the video, audio and machine technical specifications were met. The A' pickup position isn't tested. In general terms the outcome was as follows.
