THE SONY OPT-4 RECORDING SYSTEM

The Opt-4 recording system incorporates a new video head configuration. Unlike the DA4 heads used up to this time the SL-HF2100 uses one set of heads for recording and another for playback. The recording heads are larger and put down a wider track. The overlap between tracks is overcome by their azimuth angle. A set of smaller heads are employed during playback and are less sensitive to noise because there is more signal to work with. The special effects normally produced by using DA4 heads is composed in this Betas digital circuits. Having heads of the same size, with opposing slanted heads is therefor not necessary. It is a smart idea that shows up as a better picture with solid special effects.
