NEC BETAS
When NEC introduced its line of Beta VRCs, and there were a number of them, they were a large and prosperous electronics giant. But it was a different story just after World War II ended, NEC was in shambles. Their foreign owned shares had been seized, their association with Western Electric was severed and their factories were mostly destroyed by allied bombing. Fortunately "The Miracle of Japan" worked in their favor and NEC went on to succeed well beyond its former greatness. They licensed then designed and fabricated their own Betas using almost no parts being supplied by Sony. Only the format was the same. Unfortunately, by the time Betahi-fi hit the scene NEC began phasing out Beta because of distribution and recognition problems.
