THE MARANTZ BETA VCR

Only one Beta VCR was manufactured for Marantz. Made in 1982 by Sanyo it was a beautiful full-featured top end model with linear stereo and Dolby® noise reduction system. It was the first consumer Beta VCR to record in stereo. Controversy ensued because just a year after it was introduced Sony unveiled their Betahi-fi stereo system. This made the Marantz VCR (VR 200) obsolete. It just couldn't match the superior performance of Betahi-fi stereo. It was blown away but it still sold respectfully well to those that wanted the first stereo VCR, and it was uniquely designed. Marantz ended their participation in the format after Betahi-fi hit the market. They were not happy.
