Next is a visual inspection of the number two and three guides. Bring the number two and three guides into cleaning position by rotating the loading gear on the loading transmission assembly with your finger until each is exposed for easy cleaning. (See photo below on the left) Some machines do not have this type loading transmission, they may have a worm gear and it must be turned to move the ring on which the guides are mounted. To do this use one of the blunt planks and gently rotate the gear slowly until each guide is out were you can get to it. Using the dental mirror (and magnifing glass if necessary) inspect the two spring loaded upright guides. These are guides one and two. (To aid in identification consult the graphic below the pictures.) If after inspection if the guides appear clean, you do not need to clean them. They are minor players in the alignment and mostly serve to angle guide the tape up to the shuttle assembly (number four and five guides). If cleaning is required it is covered in the next step.
