Here is a handy feature that allows you to go directly from record pause to playback pause without the need to stop the tape. With most VCRs, when you are in the record mode and you want to go into playback, you have to first press the STOP button (and then press PLAY). With "Direct to Play" you simply press the PAUSE button during RECORD and then press the PLAY button. The machine will then go into the playback pause mode, and the last recorded frame will be displayed on the screen. From this standby you have the option to press record again, and the machine will switch back to record pause and perform the micro-timing phase (µTP) function. Or you can press pause again, and playback will begin. Now features like forward and reverse scan, step motion, and pause will be available. This is especially handy when editing or reference viewing. Plus, the tape remains stead-fast in the path during pause so the editing points and transitions are smoother. Models that have this function are the Realistic, EDV-9300, EDV-9500, EDW-30F, SL-HF1000, SL-HF2000, SL-HF3000, and most Sanyo models.
