DESCRIPTION OF SONY GCS-1

The Sony GCS-1 SuperBetaMovie is the professional companion to the GCS-50 recorder. Intended to be used as a portable in-the-field media gathering camcorder for future editing using the RM-E50 editor. A SuperBeta picture coupled with an electronic viewfinder makes this a very desirable, lightweight and handy camcorder. Records in the speed only. Playback requires a Beta VCR. Rugged and friendly check out this list of features:
SuperBeta switch gives you a super-sharp, high detail picture for playing back your home video movies on a SuperBeta VCR
CCD sensor replaces the fragile, bulky pick-up tube of conventional cameras with a solid-state system that eliminates image lag or burn, improves low-light sensitivity and reduces power drain
Multi-data date/time display lets you superimpose reference information on your tape to label each scene you record
Electronic viewfinder lets you look directly at what your BetaMovie camera records
One-button recording controls camera and recording, so you can point and shoot great video pictures even when things are happening at a quick pace
Motorized power zoom with macro
Battery operation with built-in handle compartment for the rechargeable NP-1H battery pack

All GCS-1 Betamovies have one annoying design flaw. Over time the surface mounted capacitors on the imaging circuit board leak liquid electrolyte, damaging the printed circuits and causing the camera portion to become unreliable. To correct (or prevent) this problem the unit has to be disassembled and a time consuming repair must be done. All GCS-1 units I offer have had this corrective procedure performed on them.
