CANADIAN BETA VCRS

Before they could be imported into Canada Beta VCRs, and electronics in general, had to pass or exceed Canadian technical and safety requirements. A testing group, similar to Underwriter Laboratories (UL) in the USA, would evaluate and certify each model. Once passed they could be legally imported and bore a label attesting to the fact that it had met inspection. (To see the certification labels click here.) Another reason why some Betamaxes exported to Canada were marketed differently was because of the large number of French speaking people. Sometimes the instructions included in the box were in French as well as in English. On rare occasions even the VCR was slightly different in design or only the number changed, like this for EDV-7300 (which is almost identical to the EDV-7500).
