This Betamax has a switch to select recording in Betahi-fi stereo and monaural or just using the linear (conventional) recording track. This gives you the option of selecting one or the other for both playback and recording. Set it to OFF, and the recordings will be made and monitored using the conventional (monaural) track. Setting it to ON will record and play using the Betahi-fi stereo tracks. Betahi-fi still records monaural on the conventional track.
