One of the Beta formats great virtues is its superior picture. Because of it's larger video drum it is able to record a greater amount of picture information than the other format. Taking advantage of this, and improved video tape formulation, Sony engineers pushed the carrier envelope up to increase the picture detail. The result is called SuperBeta and the graphic above is a reproduction of a Sony literature piece that describes this technology in layman's terms.
