SERVO CHECKS

One final test before starting the mechanical side of the refurbishing process is the servo performance test. This is done with a special analyzer that compares the operation of the different servo motors in the machine to a special reference tape. It then renders a verdict after the motors pass several tests. It is another tool used in an effort to ward off future problems. As you can see I have duplicated the master tape in each of the three speeds. I do this to preserve the master, it is the copies I will be using during the tests. It also allows me to make recordings in different speeds (the master tape is recorded only in BII). One side note, when making the BI copy I use a SLO-383 because it is a professional machine dedicated to this speed only. Making good duplicates is easy to do. I simply test two machines with the analyzer using the master tape. Once it is determined that they are operating perfectly and I then use them to make the copies.
