JAPANESE BETAS

A number of Japanese Beta VCRs have made it over here to the states. Some of the most notable have been the high end units like the SL-HF3000, EDV-5000, EDV-7000 and EDV-9000. Because Japan uses the same television system as the US (NTSC 3.58) they can be used over here. But they run on 100 volts AC instead of our 110. The way around this obstacle is to use a converter to drop the voltage. If this isn't done, over time our higher voltage will overdrive these units and cause them to fail. The line frequency of 60 Hz (cycles) is the same for both countries. Another difference is the clock and timer. Japan uses the 24 hour military time system. So you have to remember that 0100 is 1:00 AM and 1300 is 1:00 PM etc. There are some other minor difference but otherwise these Betas work great here in the USA.
