The first step when refurbishing a Beta is to open it up and carefully use compressed air to remove, dust, lint and tape shards from the inside. The upper panel (or cabinet), faceplate, lower panel and other external items are removed, inspected and cleaned or repaired. After this would come all the steps involved in repair and alignment.
